Everett Church of God History

The Everett Church of God originated in 1950. God burdened the heart of Sister Edith King, who began services in her home.

In 1951, a building was purchased. Rev. Eleanor Verrico, and the Rev. John Thompson were the first two Pastors of the small congregation. In 1952, Rev. C.B. Shaal began his ministry that extended over a thirty year period. The Church grew steadily under the leadership of Rev. Shaal, outgrowing the facilities even after remodeling twice to accommodate the people.

Ten acres of property, along Route 30, 1 mile West of Everett, were purchased. The construction of a new church building was completed in 1965. Later a parsonage was built overlooking the property.

Through the vision and ministry of Rev. Shaal the Church became known for its emphasis on missions. Soon the first church addition, consisting of a nursery, choir room, and fellowship hall, was erected. In 1972, Rev. Shaal's dream was fulfilled when the Church opened the Everett Christian Academy. The school provided K-12 Christian based education to the community for 25 years. During these years, a second addition, consisting of a gymnasium, numerous classrooms, and shop area was added. Rev. Shaal remained as Pastor until 1981.

Rev. Donald Defino pastored the Church for the next two years, followed by the Rev. James. Caldwell for eight and a half years. In 1993, our present Pastor, Rev. William R. Kisner and his wife, Debbie and family began their ministry. Under the director of Pastor Kisner the church retired their debt. In 1998, Pastor Kisner led the Church in the remodeling of the sanctuary and other improvement projects.

Pastor Kisner and the congregation invite you to become a part of the Everett Church family, a Church that loves God and loves people.
